Fourteen suspects are in police custody following a major intelligence-led operation targeting narcotic cultivation and distribution in Daliga, located in the Nabdam District of the Upper East Region.
The arrests, carried out on Sunday, August 16, 2026, are part of an ongoing crackdown by the Upper East Regional Police Command to dismantle drug supply networks operating across the region.
The suspects, aged between 20 and 70, have been identified as Alex Nyaaba, Charles Kolog Dombil, Jenifer Ziimi, Ziimi Pandan, Tobire Naab, Yinteng James, Sandenab Peelim, Abane Zamgbeog, Borimi Nahou, Tobil Wandabil, Furimi Nabdok, Nahou Dogobila, Gurimi Teng, and Gurimi Kugeri.
According to a statement issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Upper East Regional Police Command and signed by Chief Inspector Abdul-Raman Sumaila, the operation led to the discovery of a substantial quantity of suspected narcotic substances, commonly known as “wee” or Indian hemp, concealed in sacks.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the illicit crop was being cultivated alongside millet and maize in a deliberate attempt to conceal the farms and evade detection by security agencies.
The police believe the suspects are key suppliers of narcotics to multiple drug peddlers operating across the Upper East Region.
Their arrest forms a critical part of the Police Command’s broader strategy to disrupt the cultivation, distribution, and supply chains fueling drug circulation in the area.
The suspects are currently in custody and will be arraigned before court to face the full rigours of the law, the police have confirmed.
