A woman who abducted an eight-month-old baby from the Kpando Market last month has received a three-year prison sentence.
Stella Amedzorme, 31, was convicted by the Kpando Circuit Court on August 3rd, 2026, after she pleaded guilty to the charge of abduction.
The incident occurred on July 17th, 2026, when the victim’s mother, Gloria Xagbe, 21, entrusted her son to Amedzorme, a fellow trader, while she stepped away to purchase packaging bags.
Upon her return, both the suspect and the child were gone.
Police intelligence led to the arrest of Amedzorme the following day, July 18th, at Toviate, near Kwamekrom in the Oti Region.
The infant was found unharmed and safely rescued.
During interrogation, the convict claimed she acted on the instructions of her fiancé, who remains on the run.
While the child has been reunited with the family, authorities are actively pursuing the fiancé to assist with the ongoing investigation.
Inspector Felix Kwao, the Regional Public Relations Officer, reaffirmed the Police’s dedication to child protection, urging parents to be vigilant when trusting others with their children’s care.
