The Eastern Regional Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old woman for allegedly abducting a nine-year-old girl and attempting to traffic her from Agormanya Zongo in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality to Kenya.

The suspect has been arraigned before the Odumase Krobo Circuit Court, where she pleaded not guilty to the charges.

She has been remanded in police custody and is scheduled to reappear on May 5 for a case management conference.

According to police reports, the victim’s father filed a complaint on Sunday, April 19, after his daughter left home and failed to return.

A joint operation by the Odumase-Krobo District Police and Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) personnel at the Accra International Airport led to the child’s rescue before she could be flown out of the country.

Preliminary investigations suggest the suspect was attempting to send the girl to Kenya. The child has since been safely reunited with her father.

Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Bridget Opoku, has called on the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
