Ghana launches December in GH 2026 campaign to boost tourism

Ghana has launched the December in GH 2026 campaign to position the country as a preferred destination for cultural experiences, heritage tourism and entertainment.

The campaign, themed: “Ghana to the World,” seeks to showcase the country’s cultural identity, creative excellence, rich heritage and hospitality to the international community.

Speaking at the launch at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra, Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, said the initiative would build on previous programmes, including PANAFEST, the Year of Return and Beyond the Return, to strengthen Ghana’s international tourism appeal.

She said the success of the campaign should be measured not only by visitor numbers but also by its economic benefits to local businesses, including hotels, tour operators, artisans, musicians, fashion designers and young entrepreneurs.

Madam Gomashie announced that the Ministry was collaborating with the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) to organise the maiden African Festival of Arts, Culture and Creatives (AFESTACC) from December 9 to 11, 2026, in Ghana.

The festival is expected to bring together African Union member states, policymakers, creative entrepreneurs, investors, development partners and members of the diaspora to promote cultural exchange, skills development and investment in the creative economy.

She urged tourism industry stakeholders to uphold service excellence, visitor safety, responsible pricing and professionalism to ensure memorable experiences for tourists.

She also called for stronger collaboration between the Government and the private sector to attract investment and create sustainable employment opportunities, particularly for young people and women.

Madam Gomashie invited Ghanaians in the diaspora, Africans and friends of Ghana worldwide to visit the country, explore tourist attractions across all 16 regions and invest in its tourism and creative industries.

Mr Edmond Moukala, UNESCO Representative to Ghana, highlighted the country’s rich tangible and intangible cultural heritage, noting that its diverse traditions and customs reflected its historical significance as a kingdom and empire.

Maame Afua Houadjeto, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, described December in GH as an opportunity for visitors to experience Ghana through its music, festivals, heritage sites, cuisine, fashion and community celebrations.

She urged event organisers to create opportunities for Ghanaian performers to reach international audiences and encouraged businesses to work closely with local suppliers and entrepreneurs to ensure that tourism expenditure supported local livelihoods.

The December in GH 2026 programme will feature activities from December 1, 2026, to January 25, 2027.
