Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has said, as part of government’s efforts to push for a cashless economy, the Bank of Ghana is set to launch a Universal QR code next month.
Having only been launched in Singapore, Ghana will be the first country in Africa to introduce this system.
The Vice-President said: “The Bank of Ghana and GhiPPS will next month launch the Universal QR code for Ghana. This is a system which will make it possible for all retailers to receive payments on their mobile phones, without really having a need for a point of sale device, and this means even the koko seller and kofi brokeman seller can have their own mobile phone QR code and they will not need to take cash anymore. It is going to be a revolution.”
