A strong violent windstorm that hit Somanya in the Eastern Region, on Monday has left at least five casualties in its wake.
The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) Director for the Yilo Krobo Municipality, Michael Jackson Bruku, has confirmed the mishap and says victims sustained minor injuries.
They are currently being treated at the Somanya Polyclinic.
The NADMO boss says the violent windstorm hit the town at about 3:00 pm. He said, “We received a distress call that the storm has caused a tree to fall onto the highway leading to Kpong”. “So we are here to salvage the situation to enable access to and from the town,” he added.

The storm destroyed properties in its wake, including ripping off the roof and destroying the building housing the Somanya branch of Barclays Bank.
Cars belonging to the staff of the bank, Yilo Star, AGT Micro Finance have all been destroyed as well as several homes in the town.
NADMO acknowledges the windstorm has caused considerable damage in the town and they would need to conduct an appropriate assessment of the extent of damage in order to present their report.
