Entertainment journalist Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo has disclosed that he was contacted on so many occasions to serve as a board member of Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs).

Mr. Asamoah-Baidoo, who is a very well known entertainment pundit said he turned down the offer which was communicated to him two years ago by George Quaye, the then Public Relations Officer of Charterhouse because he was convinced the time was not right.

“George called me that the organisers have decided to include me on the board. Well, I felt at the time I wasn’t ready because I figured that over the years, there were a couple of people who were good critics of the award, starting from Nii Ayi Tagoe, Francis Doku and the likes. These guys were taken to the board so that really curtailed their ability to pass commentary on the award,” he said at the blogger’s forum.

When asked why he chose to accept to be on the board of 3Music Awards when he had turned down an offer from VGMA, Asamoah-Baidoo said: “sometimes it’s not always prudent to sit at that side and be criticizing. It’s also advisable that if you have ideas, innovative mechanisms as to how something should work, you should help.”

The pundit, however, added that he will definitely like to be on the VGMA board, but only when the time is right.

“With regards to me being on the VGMA board, I can’t say ‘no’… when I get the call again, I’ll easily jump unto the bandwagon and help it grow.”

“I’ve not gotten to that bridge yet. For example, Andy Dosty is on 3Music Awards, he’s still on VGMAs. Although it’s the same objective, they have different mechanisms, different category definitions are how they go about their award schemes so I’m not too sure…”
