MPs in Parliament resort to masks in attempt to prevent Coronavirus

As part of enhanced measures to protect themselves from the novel coronavirus currently in the country, members of Ghana’s parliament have resort to wearing masks.

The masks were handed over to the MPs as they entered the Chamber and many of them immediately wore them.

Prof. Mike Ocquaye, Speaker of Parliament, in following the leadership by example style, immediately proceeded to wear his masks.

Everyone present in the chamber, including members of staff as well as members of the Parliamentary press corp were all been given the nose masks.

MP for Pusiga, Laadi Ayamba advised her colleagues who were not using their masks to try to do so.

“Some are not wearing the masks, some are wearing it inside out, some are wearing it upside down,” Madam Ayamba said on the Floor.

The Minority in parliament is also currently kicking against a proposal from the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu for the house to sit on Saturday to work.

According to him, the sitting will enable them to finish various business before they rise in the first week of April.

However, the minority argues they need to rest in the wake of the Coronavirus spread and they have no business sitting on a Saturday.
