The military in Ghana has denied assaulting civilians as the nation is on a two-week lockdown due to the coronavirus outbreak.
There have been several reports of assaults with claims that soldiers slap individuals who flout the lockdown directive.
Some of these incidents have been circulating in videos on social media.
However, Brigadier-General Yeboah Nsiah in his presentation at the Ministry of Information press conference, debunked these claims.
According to him, his officers are professionals who would do nothing to harm civilians.
“Some videos gone viral concerning some brutalities being meted out by some soldiers to some civilians. Let me assure my fellow Ghanaians that the soldiers that we have are well trained. They are professionals. They don’t brutalize”, he said.
He however admitted that there was just one encounter between a soldier and a civilian but no slap was involved.
“We have only one incident and that incident has nothing to do with slapping”, he added.
Brigadier-General Yeboah Nsiah added that the soldier in question has been withdrawn to the barracks and the Military Police is investigating the matter.
The military top official ended his speech but reminding Ghanaians to fear God and stop peddling lies about the military.
