Mfantseman shooting: I expect police to bring perpetrators of gruesome act to book as soon as possible – Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo said he is shocked and saddened by the news of the murder of the incumbent Mfantseman MP, Ekow Quansah Hayford.

Describing it as a sad day for the constituency and the country as a whole, he charged the police to get to the bottom of the issue as soon as possible.

“By all accounts, he was very much appreciated and loved by his constituents, and I expect the police to bring the perpetrators of this gruesome, cruel act to book as soon as possible,” he said.

The robbers who shot dead the Mfantseman MP, Ekow Quansah Hayford allegedly accused him of contributing to the difficulty of life in the country.

According to an eyewitness report, they were infuriated when the MP identified himself during their operation which left several passengers injured.

The eyewitness told Joy News the robbers made the MP get down from his car and shot him twice.

Recounting his last encounter with the deceased, President Akufo-Addo said they were together “on June 30, this year, when I commissioned a water supply project at Anomansa, in his constituency.”

The President said it was clear from the reactions of the residents that day that the MP was well-loved constituents.

“My deepest condolences to his family, to the Mfantseman constituency, to the New Patriotic Party, and to Parliament. May his soul rest in perfect peace,” he added.

Meanwhile, the police say they are investigating the murder.
