The Accra High Court has fined two churches International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) and Crossroad Community Church Ministries in Haatso in the Greater Accra Region for excessive noise making.
The court presided over by Her Ladyship Justice Novisi Afua Aryene ordered the churches to pay damages to the tune of GHC 20,000 to the plaintiffs – Mrs Patricia Bannerman and Dr Elizabeth Masopeh.
The damages to be paid to the plaintiffs is for the reckless disregard of the interest and rights of the plaintiffs to enjoy peace and quiet in their properties.
Her ladyship passed this judgement after the court ascertained the fact that activities of the two church such as; loud singing, clapping and drumming, accompanied by electronic musical instruments and loud prayers during days and nights, especially) from Fridays to Sundays amounted to a nuisance.
Again, the blocking of the entrance to the homes of the plaintiffs with cars of the congregants as well as excessive littering of the neighbourhood during church services created great discomfort for the plaintiffs.
The plaintiffs dragged the churches and the Municipal Chief Executive of the Abokobi of the area to court over the continuous disturbances in the residential area.
