After 15 years of advancing financial inclusion in Ghana through its Mobile Money (MoMo) service, MTN Ghana is now focusing on expanding into underdeveloped areas of the financial technology (fintech) industry.

Since launching MoMo in 2009, MTN has significantly impacted Ghana’s financial landscape. However, the company identifies substantial growth opportunities in services such as credit, digital payments, cross-border transactions, insurance, and e-commerce. Nii Adotey Mingle, MTN’s Northern Sector General Manager, emphasized that partnerships with merchants, agents, and subscribers are crucial to accessing these market segments.

Speaking at the MTN MoMo@15 Stakeholder’s Dinner and Awards ceremony in Kumasi, Mr. Mingle highlighted the potential for significant growth in Ghana’s fintech industry, supported by robust infrastructure and forthcoming policy frameworks from regulators and policymakers. He stated, “We need to deepen our partnership efforts and invest in the required skills and technology to spur growth in the industry.”

MTN remains committed to collaborating with stakeholders to achieve its goal of providing financial freedom for every Ghanaian. Mr. Mingle assured, “We will continue to push the boundaries of innovation, to adapt to the ever-evolving technological landscape, and to ensure that no one is left behind.”

The event also recognized over 100 outstanding MTN MoMo merchants and agents from the Ashanti, Bono, and Bono East Regions for their loyalty and contributions to the business.

MTN’s MoMo service has played a significant role in Ghana’s fintech industry, creating direct and indirect employment opportunities and enhancing government revenue.

As MTN Ghana celebrates 15 years of MoMo, the company is poised to explore new avenues within the fintech sector, leveraging its established presence and partnerships to unlock untapped potentials and drive further financial inclusion across the country.
