Two security personnel from the Volta Aluminium Company Limited (VALCO) were reportedly assaulted on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, by individuals believed to be supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The Tema Newtown District Police Command has assured VALCO that security measures will be intensified to prevent future incidents.
The group allegedly entered the company’s premises with the aim of locking the offices of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Deputy CEO, citing the conclusion of former President Akufo-Addo’s tenure as their reason for the action.
Kwame Abubakar Essuman, Director of Human Resources and Administration at VALCO, confirmed the incident to Citi News. He added that one of the security officers was injured during the attack and needed medical treatment.
“The officer was struck from behind with a stick, which caused head swelling and general body pain. He has since received treatment and been discharged,” Essuman stated.
