Mion MP hands over classroom blocks and health facility to communities

Alhaji Misbawu Adam Mahama, Member of Parliament for Mion Constituency in the Northern Region, has officially handed over some newly completed educational and health facilities to the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

The facilities comprised a six-unit classroom block at Kpalkori, a Junior High School block with a staff common room at Kanimo, a health facility with nurses’ quarters and a motorbike for Jimle community, an additional Junior High School block with a staff common room at Sambu, and another classroom block at Kpachaa.

The MP was accompanied by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Azindow Hamza Moabalyn, and some officials from both the education and health directorates.

The intervention forms part of the World Bank’s initiative that also saw the reconstruction of the Yendi – Tamale Road to help address infrastructure challenges in the education sector and to improve access to quality healthcare in the district.

Speaking at the ceremony, Alhaji Adam Mahama said the classroom blocks would help reduce the infrastructure deficit, improve the teaching and learning environment, and provide schoolchildren with conducive spaces for effective learning.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that every child in the district had equal access to education regardless of location, and urged teachers, parents, and community members to support the drive for quality education.

On the health interventions, the MP said the facility and motorbike would aid health staff in delivering outreach services and monitoring activities in surrounding communities.

He called on health workers to maintain the facilities and make the best use of the resources.

Mr Mahama Iddrisu, Deputy Director in charge of Supervision and Planning at the District Directorate of Education, expressed appreciation to government for the support and gave assurance that the Directorate would safeguard the facilities to achieve their intended purpose.

Community leaders and residents of the beneficiary communities also expressed gratitude to the government, the MP, and the DCE, noting that the facilities would significantly improve education and healthcare outcomes in the district.
