Priority View Homes extends affordable housing project for cocoa farmers in Assin Gangan

Nana Kwabena Agyei Ayeh II, Chief of Assin Gangan in the Assin North District of the Central Region, has collaborated with Priority View Homes to launch affordable two-and three-bedroom houses for cocoa farmers in his area.

The project is to secure the future of the farmers.

Nana Ayeh said the rationale behind the initiative was to also encourage cocoa farmers to return to their farms to boost production and ensure they had access to decent housing through a flexible payment plan.

The Chief expressed worry that it was disheartening to see some cocoa farmers who had worked and contributed to Ghana’s economy through cocoa production not being able to build befitting houses.

The initiative, he said would restore dignity and hope to the hard working cocoa farmers regardless of the size of their farm.

He said if public sector workers could access mortgages, why not cocoa farmers who had contributed significantly to the nation’s economy and deserved the same opportunity.

He therefore urged cocoa farmers in his community to take full advantage of the initiative by being committed and faithful to the payment plan allocated.

Mr Eric Affaidu, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Priority View Homes, explained that the project sought to honour and empower cocoa farmers who had been marginalised for a long time.

The CEO said most cocoa farmers do not have decent accommodation and therefore, he decided to present to them housing schemes with affordable payment plan ranging from five to fifteen years.

He said, the initiative was timely and assured all of them that as cocoa farmers, they would soon have houses they could call a home.

Mr Affaidu pointed out that the initiative would not only transform the lives of cocoa farmers but also serve as a motivation for them to increase productivity.

A committee, he indicated would be set up to ensure cocoa farmers were registered to benefit from the housing scheme.
