UNGA80: PNC lauds Mahama’s boldness in highlighting plight of Africa

The People’s National Convention (PNC) at the weekend praised President John Dramani Mahama’s for his boldness in highlighting the plight of Africa, world leaders gathered for the 80th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 80) in New York, United States.

Mr Sampson Asaki Awimgobet, the National Chairman of the PNC said the President’s boldness in telling the story of Africa to the world leaders remained exceptional and therefore deserved commendation.

“We are strongly behind President Mahama, and we appreciate how he is making Africa proud at the on-going discourses at the UNGA 80”, he stated, when addressing the opening session of the National Executive Meeting (NEC) of the PNC, underway at Abesim, near Sunyani.

Mr Bernard Mornah, the Leader of the PNC, national and regional executives of the party are attending the day’s NEC meeting.

Mr Awimgobet indicated that: “In fact, President Mahama is really making Ghana and Africa proud and excellent contributions to the on-going discussions clearly shows that he is sensitive and understands the plight and myriads of Africa challenges.”

Touching on the present state of the PNC, he said the national executives of the party remained committed to rebranding, repackaging and market the party and thereby working tirelessly to position the PNC to win the Election 2028.

He said the leadership of the party had decided to hold the NEC meetings at the regional levels to make the party more attractive, build and strengthen its support base at the constituency and grassroots levels.

Mr Awingobet said as part of its re-organisation plans, the leadership of the party would soon embark on regional tours to interact with the executives, identify and tackle emerging challenges confronting the PNC proactively.

He said: “From here we are also going to undertake tours to the various major media houses in Accra to get space and contribute to national discourses and by doing so we will be building our great party as well”.

Mr. Awingobet tasked the regional executives to also do more and build relationships with the various media houses and local FM stations as well and called on the media to give the PNC the required space to contribute to their discussions.

Earlier in a welcoming address, Sampson Alanyina Sampana, the National Second Vice Chairman, and former Bono Regional Chairman of the PNC, said the party highly appreciated the hard work of the national leadership.

He said holding the NEC meetings at the regional levels was a clear indication that the leadership of the PNC remained committed to building and strengthening the party’s local support base.
