Residents, drivers, and passengers in the Twifo Atti Morkwa District of the Central Region are urgently appealing to the government and the National Road Safety Authority to provide speed rumps and road signs along major routes in the district.
The affected areas include the Twifo Praso–Morkwa stretch, Bremang to Agona through Mintaso, Kotokye- Denkyira-Awusiem, Dunkwa-On-Offin and Twifo praso-Cape Coast roads.
According to residents, these routes, especially the sharp curves between Morkwa and Agona, as well as Kotokye and Awusiem, have become notorious accident spots.
At least two accidents are averagely recorded on weekly basis, often attributed to the absence of proper road signs and speed rumps.
Mr George Sem Frimpong, Assembly Member for the Morkwa-Sebenso Electoral Area, confirmed the reports and called on road contractors and authorities to urgently address them situation.
He emphasised that dangerous curves along Morkwa to Agona and Dunkwa-on-Offin roads continued to claim lives due to speeding and lack of warning signs.
Mr Joseph Arthur, a Road Safety Officer for Twifo-Atti- Morkwa and Twifo-Hemang- Lower-Denkyira District, also confirmed the trend.
He noted that while road safety authorities were educating drivers to comply with traffic rules, enforcement remained a major challenge.
He stressed that providing road signs and speed rumps would significantly reduce the high rate of accidents in the district and called for swift action.
