The Police in Dzodze have arrested a 24-year-old man, Adolf Kwadzo Dordunoo of Dzodze-Fiagbedu, for allegedly causing the death of his 22-month-old cousin after dumping him into a pan of hot oil.
The incident, according to Police sources, occurred around 0400 hours on Sunday, September 28, 2025, when the suspect reportedly carried the toddler, identified as Sampson Agbenuvor, and fled with him.
In the process of being pursued by relatives, he allegedly threw the child into a pan of hot oil that a woman was heating to fry doughnut.
The severely burnt child was rushed to the St. Anthony Hospital by relatives.
Despite emergency treatment, Sampson was later pronounced dead by medical officers in the evening.
The victim’s mother, Ms. Julie Viwada, told the Police that the suspect—who is her cousin and known to suffer from hay fever—took her son without provocation before committing the act.
ASP Emmanuel Habada, the District Crime Officer, led a team of officers to arrest Dordunoo, who reportedly could not provide any explanation for his actions during interrogation.
Statements have since been taken from the complainant, Ms. Veronica Adzo Zonyida, and an eyewitness, Ms. Peace Amenyo.
