Mr James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, has lobbied for chairs and tables for Kindergarten (KG) pupils at the Avangor EP basic school, located at Adeheta in the Akatsi South Municipality of the Volta Region.
The pupils had hitherto been sitting on the bear floor of their classroom to study, while their teachers also lacked the furniture needed to enable them to effectively deliver quality education to the children.
The supply of the furniture to the school, was a gesture from ‘Pencils of Promise,’ a Non-Governmental Organisation, after Mr Samuel Abelorbu, the Assembly Member for the area, appealed to the Regional Minister for an intervention to address the ‘demoralising manner’ in which the pupils and teachers found themselves in.
Mr Agbelorbu at a short handing-over ceremony led by Mr Daniel Dagba, the Akatsi South Municipal Chief Executive, thanked the Regional Minister for heeding to their plea, and gratified the swift response of the partners who had contributed so far to the improvement of education in the area.
Mr Paul Atsu Ocloo, the newly posted headteacher of the school, called for further assistance in providing the staff with furniture to ensure the effective delivery of their services.

Mr Dagba, assured the school authorities of the government’s support under the Resetting Ghana Agenda pledge.
A total of fourteen wooden chairs and ten tables have since been handed over to the school for use.
Meanwhile, Mr Bernard Ahiafor, the Member of Parliament of Akatsi South, also announced some new interventions that would help boost educational infrastructure in the Constituency this year.

Earlier, Mr Wise Horgli, the Chief Executive Officer of Westport Petroleum, an oil business company in Ghana, said it had built a 3-Unit Junior High Schoo block with an office and toilet facilities for the school and pledged to sustain its support towards the growth of education.
