The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly has introduced an on- street market, beginning October 18, 2025.
A statement copied the Ghana News Agency said, from six to six every Saturday and Sunday, road stretches including Ahenfie Hotel, Port Quarters, Baptist and Zenith would be used for that purpose.
The Assembly enjoined consumers and traders to observe all necessary instructions attached to the market days to ensure that the on-street market thrived.
Meanwhile, some market women, consumers and members of the public the GNA spoke with concerning the introduction urged the government to rather speed up work on the market project or temporarily make it habitable for traders.
Madam Emelia Mensah, a teacher, said: “But what happened to the market they created at the Paa Grant Roundabout…I see it empty all the time…they should rather occupy that.”
Another person, who gave his name as Mr. Nurudeen, said: “I am afraid our street is going to be full of filth in no time.”
He continued: “Just look at how the Jubilee Park was destroyed by a similar hurried decision during COVID time…the Assembly must come again.”
