The Legal Aid Commission has pledged to finalise the registration of its outstanding non-current assets, including lands across the country, by June 2026.
Mr Edmund Amarkwei Foley, the Executive Director of the Commission, said the institution had already surveyed the lands and was working to complete the necessary payments for registration.
“…We are committed to ensuring that by the end of the second quarter of next year, June 30, 2026, all these lands will be registered and have proper titles,” he told the Public Accounts Committee in Parliament House on Friday.
He said while some properties, such as the 0.72-acre land in Takoradi and the property in Kumasi, had been registered and documented, others, including sites in Tamale and Koforidua, were still in the process of registration.
Mr Foley emphasised that the Commission aimed to avoid litigation and was actively engaging with the Executive Secretary of the Lands Commission to expedite the process.
“Since last year, we have surveyed the lands, and our next step is to ensure the necessary payments are made so that registration can be completed,” he told the Committee.
Mr Foley said the Commission’s efforts to formalise its land ownership was expected to enhance its asset management and reduce potential disputes.
