The residents of the Ningo-Prampram district have joined the nation to mark the National Sanitation Day cleanup exercise.

The cleanup exercise, which climaxed at Dawa, saw support from assembly staff, assembly members, health officers, drivers, and the community members, cleaning areas such as Dawa CHPS Compound and the Police Station.

The cleanup exercise, led by Mr Raphael Uriel Narteh, the Ningo-Prampram District Chief Executive (DCE), formed part of the assembly’s rotational schedule to promote cleanliness across all communities in the district.

Mr Narteh expressed joy over the massive turnout and praised residents for their commitment to keeping the environment clean.

He said that although the district was doing well in sanitation, it faced resource challenges and gave the assurance that the assembly would work towards resolving such challenges.

He added that this exercise shows how united the community was, noting that “cleanliness is next to godliness;” therefore, residents must make it part of their daily lives to always keep their surroundings clean.

Mr Ebenezer Addo, the Presiding Member and the assembly member for the New Ningo electoral area, said that the initiative would continue in other communities, and assured residents that choked gutters and poor drainage systems would soon be fixed once the road contractors resumed their work.

He mentioned that part of the assembly’s budget had been allocated to provide waste containers in all electoral areas to make the district one of the cleanest in the Greater Accra region.

Mr Noah Narteh Abayateye, Assembly Member for Dawa, appreciated the DCE, the District Environmental Health Officer, and the Assembly for their support and encouraged residents to avoid littering, saying, “Sanitation is not a one-day activity but an everyday thing.”

Madam Evelyn Nani, the Ningo-Prampram District Environmental Health Officer, commended the people of Dawa for their enthusiasm, saying that good sanitation was key to healthy living.

She called for waste segregation to start from homes and urged residents to adopt positive attitudes toward keeping their surroundings clean to avoid further outbreaks of diseases and bacteria.
