Presentation of Bawku conflict report: Mahama extends invitation to House of Chiefs/Peace Council

President John Dramani Mahama has extended invitations to the National House of Chiefs and the National Peace Council, to witness the presentation of the Bawku conflict media report by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene.

The event is slated for Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at 16 hours at the Presidency in Accra.

The President extended the invitation during a courtesy call on him by the National Peace Council led by its chairman Reverend Emmanuel Kofi Fianu.

President Mahama stated that the Sahel area of the West Africa sub-region was saddled with the issue of violent extremism and that was why it was important for them to try and amicably handle the Bawku issue as quickly as possible.

He expressed his appreciation to Otumfuo Osei Tutu for his invaluable role towards resolving the Bawku conflict.

He said when he assumed office, the previous government informed him that they had asked Otumfuo to mediate which was later confirmed by the revered chief himself upon his interaction with the President.

President Mahama explained that he thought it was a great opportunity for that mediation to take place, so the government had been managing the crisis since waiting for the outcome of the mediation process.

He said happily, the Otumfuo had signaled him that on the 16th of December, he would come to the Presidency to present the report on the Bawku conflict mediation to him.

He said he was looking forward to seeing the National Peace Council, the Executive Committee of the House of Chiefs and then other, recognised bodies and religious leaders at the meeting to receive the mediation report together.

He said consequently, whatever actions needed to be taken to implement the reports, they would all know exactly what they were going to do.
