Tema GNCCI honours business excellence

The Tema Branch of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI) has held an end-of-year dinner and awards night, to recognise individuals and organisations for their dedication, contributions and achievements within the business community.

The event, held on the theme “Celebrating Excellence, Showing Gratitude and Inspiring Growth,” brought together business leaders, stakeholders and dignitaries, including Madam Ebi Bright, the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE).

Global Cargo and Commodities Limited, a logistics and freight forwarding company, received a plaque and citation as the Most Supportive Member Company, while Ampofo Commodities won the Membership Referral Award.

The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority was honoured with the Excellence in Timely Membership Renewal Award.

Madam Bright who was the Special Guest of Honour, said she was proud to be recognised as a partner of the Chamber and acknowledged the responsibility placed on her office to meaningfully support its activities.

She commended the Tema Branch of the GNCCI for its commitment to enterprise development and its role in sustaining Tema as Ghana’s leading industrial city, noting that the success of the metropolis had a direct impact on national development.

She said her office remained responsive to the needs of the business community, explaining that her mandate required continuous learning and engagement.

Madam Bright called for stronger corporate social responsibility engagements, stressing that industrial growth must go hand in hand with social progress, and urged industries to support the metropolis through the provision of schools, youth training centres, clinics, sanitation facilities and other community development projects.

She observed that in the past, industries contributed significantly to social infrastructure for both their employees and host communities, noting, however, that such engagements had declined over time, particularly in public education.

She said many challenges confronting businesses also affected residents, adding that closer collaboration between the Assembly and the private sector would help make Tema more efficient and business-friendly.

The MCE assured the private sector of a transparent and accountable administration, saying corruption had eroded trust and discouraged private investment in public projects.

She said her office would work with credible partners to ensure accountability for all contributions made towards public development initiatives.

Mr David Nutakor, a Member of the National Council of the GNCCI, who received an award for Long-Standing Membership, expressed appreciation for the recognition.

He said his association with the Chamber had positively influenced his business journey and called for the sustenance of the awards initiative to encourage growth among members.
