Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested two individuals in connection with the severe physical abuse of an 11-year-old girl.
The disturbing incident was captured in a video that circulated widely on social media.
The suspects are 75-year-old Grace Mensah, the victim’s grandmother, and 25-year-old Godfred Osei Akoto, who was seen in the footage carrying out the assault. The child has been rescued and is now in safe hands.
According to a police report, the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team identified the viral video on TikTok and other platforms during a routine patrol, prompting immediate action.
Investigations revealed that the video was initially posted by a TikTok user with the handle @tina.adjei7. The footage showed the young girl being beaten by Akoto in the presence of her grandmother.
Police swiftly located and arrested Grace Mensah at Agona Jamasi. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of Godfred Osei Akoto.
During interrogation, Akoto stated that on December 6, 2025, the girl, who lives with her grandmother had left home and was found around midnight near the local Presbyterian School. He claimed Mensah authorized him to punish the child, leading to the assault. The grandmother corroborated this account in her statement to police.
Both suspects have been handed over to the Mampong Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DVVSU) as investigations continue.
