Close to a million people have visited Ghana and some are still in the country for the celebrations that is been monitored across the world.
The “Year of Return, Ghana 2019” is a major landmark spiritual and birth-right journey inviting the Global African family, home and abroad, to mark 400 years of the arrival of the first enslaved Africans in Jamestown, Virginia.

Lupita Nyong’o
‘Black Panther’ movie star Lupita Nyong’o arrived in Ghana in December. Her visit was not made public but pictures of her in Ghana popped up on social media. The Kenyan Hollywood star, visited some historic castles in Ghana.
T.I
American rapper, T.I. and his wife came to Ghana in December 2019. They visited tourist destinations including the Elmina Castle.
Danny Glover
American actor, film director and political activist, Danny Glover’s visit was also unannounced. He visited some historic sites and also had a meeting with Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams.
Samuel L. Jackson
Hollywood star, Samuel L. Jackson, came Ghana in August to shoot a documentary on slavery in Africa. He first visited Gabon before making his way to Ghana.
Hisham Tawfiq
‘The Blacklist’ TV series actor, Hisham Tawfiq, is another celebrity who came to Ghana for the ‘Year of Return’. He was seen touring the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.
Ludacris
American rapper and actor Ludacris, arrived in Ghana in December to partake in the ‘Year of Return’ activities. He paid a visit to the Cape Coast Castle where the first slaves from West Africa were prepared for transportation.
Steve Harvey
American comedian and actor, Steve Harvey, was in Ghana in November. He is expected to stage his ‘Family Feud’ TV show in the country in 2020.
Cardi B
American rapper Cardi B visited Ghana in December for a performance at the Livespot X Festival. She interacted with some Ghanaian female celebrities when she arrived.
Jet Li
Veteran Chinese film actor, martial artist, and film producer, Jet Li came to Ghana in November to participate in the maiden edition of the Africa Netpreneurship Summit. He was in Ghana with business mogul Jack Ma.
Tina Knowles-Lawson
Mother of Beyoncé, Tina Knowles-Lawson, also arrived in December. The American businesswoman and fashion designer came with some family members for a short vacation.
