Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Ibrahim Opoku, the Effutu Municipal Divisional Police Commander, has assured the and its surrounding villages that the Security Agencies were prepared to protect all law abiding citizens and their properties.
He said there there was no need for people to panic while celebrating the Christmas and New Year festivities, as police officers had been effectively positioned, to deal with any untoward situation.
“We are therefore appealing to residents and others who would join in the celebration to cooperate with us by providing timely and credible information, to aid crime prevention and detection,” he stated.
ACP Opoku gave the assurance in an interview with the media after the launch of activities by the Security Agencies in Effutu, towards the up-coming Yuletide.
They are the National Intelligence Bureau, Prison, Fire, Immigration and Police Services, who were urged to continue to exhibit professionalism during the period for an incident free Christmas and New Year festivities at Effutu and its surroundings.
The Commander also charged the personnel to abstain from sexual abuse and other related crimes for which they had been deployed to prevent, since the law was no respecter of persons.
ACP Opoku stated that several things happen behind the scenes during Christmas and other festivals, because in the midst of every large crowd gathering, crime and other mischief were expected to be committed.
“That is why we have come together as one institution, mandated to protect lives and property and we are to be closer to the people at this time, to detect and prevent crime and also to apprehend offenders,” he said.
ACP Opoku sensitised the people on the mission of the security agencies at their assigned locations and gave out their contact numbers for assistance when the need arose.
He cautioned unscrupulous persons who had planned to cause mayhem and breach the peace in the are, to eschew such notions because they would be apprehended.
Later, the Security Agencies moved through the principal streets of Effutu Municipality giving tit-bits to the people, on how to protect themselves while they celebrated the season.
