Fire outbreak at Tadisco Down destroys several shops

By News1

A fierce fire swept through a group of commercial containers at Tadisco Down in Takoradi on Monday, December 22, destroying four units completely.

The blaze, which erupted in a container housing an electricity meter, rapidly spread to neighboring units containing shops, a cold store, and a sewing centre.

Despite a brief delay caused by a mechanical issue with their first appliance, firefighters from the Sekondi Metro Station contained the fire to ten containers, preventing further loss.

No casualties were reported.

“Their swift action ensured no injuries were reported and allowed six containers and a chop bar to be salvaged. The fire was fully extinguished shortly after midnight,” the police confirmed.

Preliminary investigation points to an exploding prepaid meter as the possible cause, though the GNFS says its inquiry is ongoing.

The Ghana National Fire Service has, therefore, reiterated the importance of proper electrical installations to mitigate such risks.
