Two female babies were born on Christmas eve at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital (STH), Mrs Eunice Oppong-Amoah, the Director In-charge of Nursing and Midwifery at the hospital has said.
She told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that so far, the facility had recorded six births, comprising five females and a male between Wednesday, December 24, and Friday, December 26.
Mrs Oppong-Amoah spoke to the GNA when MTN Ghana, a telecommunication company presented 30 Christmas hampers to some newborns at the STH and the Berekum Holy Family Catholic in the Bono Region Hospital on Friday.
Each of the hampers contained baby towel, sponge, detergent, powder, pomade, soaps, toy, among others.
Mrs Oppong-Amoah indicated that though some of the babies were born through Caesarean Section (CS), all the babies and their mothers were in good condition, and expressed appreciation to MTN for the gesture.
She called on the company to support the nurses and midwives with smart phones and airtime to aid research as they provided quality healthcare delivery to clients.
Mr Kofi Owusu, the Bono Regional Manager of MTN Ghana said the presentation aligned with the Corporate Social Responsibility programme of the company and to put smiles and aid the mothers in the upbringing and development of their respective babies.
He said: “Besides we are also into business”, saying the company was ready to establish mobile money collection points to enable clients to pay their bills through their MOMO accounts, and asked the STH’s cooperation in that regard.
Mrs Veronica Lagbeneku, one of the beneficiaries also expressed her heartfelt appreciation to MTN Ghana for the kindness.
