A 49-year-old farmer, Dodzi Gabianu, has been arraigned before a Sogakope Circuit Court on charges of defilement and incest involving his 15-year-old biological daughter.
The accused, who resides at Mafi Avedo in the Central Tongu District of the Volta Region, faces two counts: defilement of a female under sixteen years contrary to Section 101 of the Criminal Offences Act 29/60, and incest contrary to Section 105(1) of the same Act.
According to the brief facts presented by the prosecuting officer, Detective Inspector Nene Oman, Police at Adidome received a distress call on December 11, 2025, from an unknown caller reporting that a father had engaged in sexual intercourse with his daughter.
Police investigations revealed that the victim, a class six pupil, was allegedly sexually assaulted by her father on multiple occasions in November 2025.
The victim told Police that her father forcefully removed her underwear and had sexual intercourse with her, while she was asleep in her room on a Wednesday night in November 2025. The abuse allegedly continued on Thursday and Sunday of the same week.
The victim reported the incidents to her mother, who informed her brothers. The matter was subsequently taken to the chief’s palace before a formal complaint was lodged at the Sogakope Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU).
A Police medical report form was issued for the victim to undergo hospital examination and treatment.
The accused was later arrested and cautioned, while the crime scene was visited and photographed.
The court presided over by Mr Joseph Naadado Mcaly, pronounced Dodzi Gabianu guilty and jailed him for 10 years for defilement, and five (5) years for incest, which would run concurrently.
Residents lauded the police and the National Investigation Bureau personnel for their swift response, which led to justice being served.
