Babianiha gets new chief  

Babianiha, a community in Agona Swedru, has enstooled a new chief after a decade, to facilitate the development of the town.   

The chief by name, Okofo Gyasi III, swore an oath of allegiance before chiefs, queen mothers and family heads at a durbar at Ba bianiha in the Agona West Municipality of the region.  

Nana Okofo Gyasi III, a prominent businessman, succeeded his late Uncle, Nana Okofo Gyasi II, who died over a decade ago.

The colourful durbar was attended by people from all walks of life, including Nana Osompa Nyamekye II, Nsafiahene of Gomoa Asian Traditional Area and Chief of Gomoa Otaprow, Nana Nyanful Nsuako XII, Chief of Agona Asafo, Queen mothers and government officials.  

Addressing the gathering, Nana Okofo Gyasi called for unity, co-operation and mutual understanding among the citizens to promote socio-economic growth in the town to raise the standard of living of the people.  

According to him, it was important that the people supported the chiefs, queen mothers and heads of families to put in place strategic plans to ensure that the community became one of the best in the Municipality.  

Nana Okofo Gyasi said land had been earmarked for the construction of a modern market for Bthe abianiha community to enhance trading and other economic activities in the town.  

 The market project would be undertaken through self-help, he stated and further appealed to the citizenry, corporate bodies, companies, financial institutions in and outside Babianiha and many others to complete the project.

To enhance education, an educational fund had also been instituted to support brilliant, but needy students, to help them climb the educational ladder to the highest level.  

The Chief urged beneficiaries to take advantage of the fund to attain higher education and become prominent citizens in future.  

Nana Okofo Gyasi called on parents to invest heavily in their children’s education, adding that education was key to human development, and cautioned the youth to avoid the use of hard drugs, which could hurt them.  

Nana Kweku Esieni V, the Regent of Agona Swedru, expressed joy that Babianiha had finally installed a chief to administer the affairs of the community after many years.  

He added that the Swedruman Council of Chiefs were solidly behind the new chief to ensure development.  

He said the town had for many years lacked social amenities and expressed the hope that it would soon become one of the best in the area, now that a chief had been installed.  

The Regent reiterated calls on the citizens of Babianiha to unite and forge ahead with tenacity for the progression of the town.
