DACE impasse continues as youth wing insists on probe before Principal returns

The Governing Council of Dambai College of Education (DACE) has met with representatives of the “Abuamang-Acha Aberor” youth group, but efforts to facilitate the return of the Principal of the College have hit a snag.

During the meeting, the governing council asked the youth to remove the red bands blocking the College entrance, citing concerns about creating a bad atmosphere for the institution and also permitting the return of the Principal, while their demands would be addressed.

The group, which is the youth wing of the Oti Region, is insisting on an investigation into allegations against the Principal before she can return to campus.

Mr Johnathan Akpabe, spokesperson on behalf of the youth wing, gave the Council three conditions they must meet before the Principal returned.

According to him, the relevant authorities should issue an appointment letter to Dr Adams Alpha as Vice Principal, work on his convention centre and release a press statement announcing an independent investigation into the allegations.

Mr Akpabe said if the Council fails to meet these conditions, they would not permit the current Principal to set foot on the College henceforth.

Mr Daniel Bamease, Secretary to “Abuamang-Acha Aberor”, has denied claims that the group’s demand for the removal of DACE Principal is driven by tribal sentiments.

He emphasied that the group was comprised of various tribes in the Oti Region, united in their call for an investigation into the principal’s conduct.

Krachi East constituency loves everyone and is ready to work with stakeholders and leaders who aim to promote development in the area.

Mr Bamease cited that the constituency had a member of parliament (MP), who was in office for over 16-years despite not being an indigene.

Mr Richard Dunugbe, a member of the”Abuamang-Acha Aberor ” youth group, appealed to the DACE governing council and other Ghana Tertiary Education oversight bodies to grant Dr Adams Alpha as Vice Principal of DACE to bring an end to the ongoing impasse.

Professor Abdul-Barick Alhassan, a University of Development Studies (UDS) representative on the council, pledged to do everything possible to resolve the ongoing impasse at the institution. Additionally, they would investigate allegations levelled against the principal, Dr Benedicta Awusi Atiku.

“We would leave no stone unturned in our efforts to resolve this issue; prof told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an exclusive interview after the meeting.

He assured stakeholders and the public that the council was committed to addressing concerns and restoring peace to the college.
