Ghana–Italy cooperation expands tertiary education opportunities in North Tongu

A strengthened partnership between Ghana and Italy has expanded access to tertiary education for students in the North Tongu Constituency, with 61 beneficiaries receiving full scholarships to pursue science and agriculture‑related programmes.

The performance‑based scholarships, secured through collaboration with Italian partner institutions, will cover the full duration of study for all beneficiaries.

Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu, who announced the initiative, said it formed part of broader efforts to enhance human capital development through international cooperation and strategic partnerships.

He noted that the latest awards bring to 250 the total number of scholarships obtained for constituents in the last six months, underscoring what he described as a sustained commitment to education as a driver of development.

An Italian delegation led by Ambassador Laura Ranalli participated in the engagement.

The delegation included representatives from CIHEAM Bari, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), and BF, an agribusiness company with ongoing agricultural development investments in the constituency.

Mr Ablakwa expressed gratitude to the Italian partners for their continuous support, saying the collaboration reflects shared priorities in education, agriculture and youth empowerment.

He added that the partnership is expected to deepen knowledge exchange, strengthen local development initiatives and further consolidate relations between Ghana and Italy.
