President Mahama orders probe into scholarship bribery claims

By News1

President John Dramani Mahama has instructed the National Investigation Bureau (NIB) to urgently investigate allegations of bribery for state scholarships.

The directive follows a widely circulated radio discussion on Sompa FM, during which a panelist, former National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) CEO Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, claimed that individuals are paying bribes to secure government scholarships for study abroad.

In the segment, Nkansah specifically alleged that some officials were selling these opportunities for amounts as high as GHC100,000.

A statement from the Presidency described the allegations as “grave and of serious public concern.”

It emphasized that the claims directly contradict the government’s core commitment to transparency, integrity, and ensuring equal access to educational opportunities.

Consequently, President Mahama has tasked the NIB to immediately investigate the allegation thoroughly and establish the facts surrounding the claims.

Additionally, the NIB is tasked with identifying any individuals potentially involved and verifying the accuracy of the accusations.

The Bureau has been directed to submit its findings directly to the President for his consideration and any necessary subsequent action.
