Ashanti: Fire destroys school feeding facility at Nintin R/C Primary 

The Pre-School department of the Nintin R/C Primary School in the Mampong Municipality of Ashanti, has been closed temporarily following a fire outbreak that has completely razed down the facility’s feeding structure.  

The decision to close down the Pre-School department was part of precautionary measures taken by the authorities of the school to protect the children against accidents at the scene.  

The cause of the fire outbreak is still unknown and giving the people a cause to be concerned especially as the affected building had no electricity supply.

Mr Johnson Nyamekye, a Member of the Unit Committee of the Nintin Electoral Area, said the Mampong Municipal Station of the Ghana National Fire Service at the time of the fire could not be reached after many distress calls. 

He said it took the bold efforts of some youth in the town to bring the fire under control. 

Officials from the Municipal Directorate of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) later arrived upon a formal report by the assembly member, Mr Nicholas Osei-Wusu. 

Mr Mark Hammer Yeboah, the Municipal Director of NADMO, spoke about the seriousness of the disaster, particularly the building, which he noted had lost structural integrity for which it had to be pulled down. 

The affected building is the canteen and store for the preparation of meals to feed pupils of the Nintin R/C Primary under the School Feeding Programme.

The store had been re-stocked with food items worth about GHC 1,000.00 two days prior to the incident. 

Mr Nicholas Osei Taylor, the Schools Improvement and Support Officer (SISO), justified the temporary closure of the Pre- School Department and how long the children would have to stay at home. 

Meanwhile, as interim measure to feed the pupils, the Municipal NADMO pledged to provide a quantity of maize and rice while they make formal report to the Municipal Assembly for extensive support.
