Director appeals for incubators amid rising preterm deliveries in Dormaa West

By GNA

Mr Daniel Owusu-Amponsah, Dormaa West District Director of Health, has appealed for incubators to urgently support the care of preterm babies at the Dormaa West District Hospital.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency on the sidelines of a food demonstration exercise at Nkrankwanta, he expressed concern over increasing preterm births in the district, stressing that without incubators, survival of such babies would be difficult. He therefore called on the public to support the hospital.

Mr Owusu-Amponsah attributed the situation largely to anaemia in pregnancy and advised expectant mothers to eat well, rest adequately and avoid unhealthy behaviours that could endanger them and their unborn babies, noting that the need for incubators had become critical.

Mr Wisdom Peprah, the hospital’s Nutrition Officer, said the exercise was organised to promote healthy diets, adding that the facility recorded a 45 per cent rate of anaemia in pregnancy in 2025.
