President John Dramani Mahama has dismissed a series of petitions seeking the removal of the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), her two deputies, and the Special Prosecutor, following a determination by the Chief Justice that the allegations lack merit.
The Presidency confirmed in a statement on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, that a total of ten petitions had been submitted to the seat of government in late 2025.

Seven of the petitions called for the removal of EC Chairperson Jean Mensa and her deputies, Dr. Bossman Eric Asare and Samuel Tettey.
The remaining three sought the dismissal of Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng.
In accordance with Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution and Section 15 of the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act (Act 959), the petitions were referred to Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie for a preliminary constitutional assessment.
In a letter dated January 26, 2026, the Chief Justice informed the President that the petitions did not establish a prima facie case that would warrant further investigations or the constitution of a committee of inquiry.
According to background information on the petitions, the grounds for the complaints included allegations of misconduct, cronyism, abuse of office, and gross incompetence.
Petitioners reportedly argued that these issues had eroded public confidence in the institutions.
One of the petitions against the EC leadership was said to have been filed by Joseph Blankson Adumadzie, an EC staff member, though specific details remain confidential under constitutional provisions.
Under Ghana’s constitutional framework, such petitions must first pass this preliminary judicial scrutiny before any further investigative steps can be taken.
With the Chief Justice’s finding that no prima facie case exists, President Mahama has formally dismissed all ten petitions, effectively bringing the matter to a close.
The statement announcing the President’s decision was signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State for Government Communications and Spokesperson to the President.
