Three people have been confirmed dead, and one is in critical condition after a tipper truck crashed with two private vehicles on the Apire–Hemang road in the Atwima Kwanwoma Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The accident happened in the early hours of Friday, March 20, 2026, at around 5:00 a.m., when the sand-laden truck reportedly suffered brake failure, lost control, and rammed into the vehicles.
The vehicles involved were a private car with registration number DV A5244, the tipper truck registered as GC 3786-21, and a Toyota Vitz with registration number WT 1081-21.
Eyewitnesses said some victims were trapped in the wreckage for hours before personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service arrived to rescue them.
“Two people who were trapped in the car were crying out for help, but there was little we could do. Sadly, they died,” one witness said.
Francis Twumasi, a commercial driver who operates along the stretch, blamed the accident on brake failure.
“The truck lost its brakes, which led to this deadly accident. The situation was very terrible,” he said.
He also raised concerns about the growing dangers on the road, pointing to reckless driving by some tipper truck operators.
“Driving on this road has become very risky. Some of these tipper truck drivers do not exercise patience,” he added.
The injured victim has been transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at a mortuary.
