Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been installed as an Honorary Lay Canon of the Anglican Diocese of Koforidua, within the Church of the Province of West Africa.
The ceremony took place on Passion Sunday, the fifth Sunday in Lent, at St. Peter’s Anglican Cathedral.
In a social media post following the event, Mr. Akufo-Addo described the honour as one he accepted after a period of prayerful reflection.

He noted that the role recognises his contributions to public service and social justice, and will see him supporting the Anglican Communion’s work in areas such as health, evangelism, education, investment, tourism, and hospitality.
Reflecting on the occasion, the former President attributed his life’s journey to faith and divine guidance.
“My experiences and service, throughout my adult life, have been a testimony of God’s love, and a vindication of the words of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, as quoted in Matthew 19:26, which states ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible,” he said.

He pledged his continued dedication to the Church, committing to a life of service, prayer, and support for the growth of the Anglican faith within the diocese and beyond.
“I commit, as I have always, to continued service to the Church, to live a holy life, to pray regularly for God’s blessing upon the work of the Church in the world and especially in this Diocese and the West African Province, and to enter gladly into the succession of those in each generation who have served God through the worship offered in this Cathedral, Diocese and Province,” he added.

Mr. Akufo-Addo expressed gratitude to the Anglican Diocese of Koforidua, the wider Anglican Communion, and the diocesan bishop, Felix Odei Annancy, along with the officiating clergy, for the honour.
The installation places the former President among a distinguished group of laypersons recognised by the Church for their contributions to society and commitment to advancing its mission.
