CNC urges Ghanaians to eat local foods, wear attire

Mr Emmanuel Ansu, Bono Regional Director of the Centre for National Culture (CNC), has urged Ghanaians to consume traditionally prepared diets and patronise locally made products.

He encouraged the public to wear made-in-Ghana clothing and costumes to help preserve national identity and pride.

“Our local foods and products reflect our true identity as Ghanaians,” he stated at a forum marking the regional celebration of Ghana Month, held at Odomase in the Sunyani West Municipality.

Mr Ansu noted that patronising locally made goods and consuming indigenous foods would reduce import costs and create employment opportunities for the youth, thereby contributing to a resilient economy.

The Bono Regional Office of the CNC, in collaboration with the Sunyani West Municipal Assembly, organised the forum under the theme: “Still Ghana.” The event was attended by heads of departments and agencies, as well as assembly members.

Mr Ansu further advised families to teach their children and wards Ghanaian languages and dialects to promote cultural heritage.

Mr. Douglas Lebna, Sunyani West Municipal Director of Agriculture, emphasised the economic importance of consuming local produce.

“As we eat our local foods such as rice, beans, and poultry products, we expand the activities of our farmers and create employment opportunities for ourselves,” he said.

The celebration featured cultural performances by CNC personnel, while various departments showcased Ghanaian dishes, including ampesi, banku, mportomportor, aprepransa, fufu, and tuo zaafi.
