GTA partners Tribe Culture Fest to launch “16×16” World Cup fan experience

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), in partnership with Tribe Culture Fest, has launched a nationwide World Cup fan engagement, dubbed: “16×16” at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Tribe Culture Fest is a global platform that combines sports, culture, and tourism through festivals and fan experiences.

The initiative, supported by the Embassies of the United States, Canada and Mexico, is designed to align Ghana with the global excitement of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Representatives from the US Embassy and other dignitaries, alongside officials of the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana, graced the launch, highlighting the international and national significance of the programme.

The “16×16” concept is a large-scale, free World Cup viewing and cultural activation experience to be rolled out across all 16 regions of Ghana, with 16 watch parties planned nationwide.

Delivering the keynote address, Maame Efua Houadjeto, the Chief Executive Officer, GTA, said the initiative went beyond football to position Ghana as a hub for converting global events into economic opportunities.

She said it combined live match screenings with music, food fairs, tourism exhibitions and cultural showcases, transforming the tournament into a nationwide lifestyle and economic event.

Madam Houadjeto noted that Ghana must not remain on the sidelines of the World Cup but actively participate through cultural expression, tourism promotion and economic engagement.

Nana Boateng Gyimah, Chief Executive Officer of Tribe Culture Fest, said the initiative would create spaces where football intersected with music, art, food and identity, allowing each region to tell its unique story.

From an international perspective, Danye Eldridge, Cultural Attaché at the United States Embassy in Ghana, said the programme was a powerful tool for cultural diplomacy that would connect people and nations through shared experiences.

Mr Anthony Baffoe, a former Black Stars player and Secretary of the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG), said the initiative would strengthen the bond between players and fans while promoting national pride during global competitions.

The programme would stimulate local economies, decentralise tourism, empower youth and creatives, and position Ghana as a key participant in the global value chain of the World Cup.

It demonstrates Ghana’s readiness to strategically leverage international events, turning the 2026 FIFA World Cup into a unifying national experience and a catalyst for growth.
