The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has dismissed Black Stars head coach Otto Addo with immediate effect, following a string of disappointing results from the senior men’s national team.
The decision comes after a series of lackluster performances, including recent friendly match defeats to Austria and Germany, which raised serious concerns about the team’s form and readiness for the upcoming World Cup.
In a brief statement announcing the sack, the GFA thanked Addo for his service and contributions to Ghanaian football.
“The Association wishes to sincerely thank Otto Addo for his contribution to the team and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavors,” the statement read.
Addo, who previously led Ghana through major assignments including the 2022 FIFA World Cup, departs at a crucial time as the team ramps up preparations for the next global showpiece.
His exit signals a shift in technical direction as the GFA seeks to address performance lapses and rebuild confidence within the squad.
Ghana faces a tough challenge in World Cup Group L, where they are drawn against England, Panama, and Croatia.
The GFA has indicated that it will, in due course, announce the new technical direction of the Black Stars, including the appointment of a new head coach, as preparations intensify for the tournament.
The decision to part ways with Otto Addo underscores the urgency within Ghana’s football administration to reverse the team’s recent struggles and position the Black Stars for a stronger showing in upcoming international competitions.
