A head-on collision between a VIP bus and a Toyota Prado at Akyem Sekyere on the Accra–Kumasi Highway has left one person dead and several others injured.

The crash occurred at dawn on Thursday, April 2, prompting the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service to divert traffic at both the Apedwa and Asiakwa sections of the highway.

According to police, the injured have been rushed to nearby health facilities for treatment.

The accident has caused a major gridlock, leaving travellers stranded for hours, particularly as many are on the road ahead of the Easter festivities.

Authorities are advising drivers travelling from Accra to Kumasi to reroute through Kyebi from the Apedwa stretch, while those coming from Kumasi should divert through Asiakwa to rejoin the main road at Apedwa.

Police and other agencies are working to tow the wreckage, which remains blocking the crash scene.
