Mawuleme team intensifies clean-up efforts to promote sanitation in Ho

The Mawuleme Sanitation Movement has intensified its clean-up exercises in Ho, undertaking a major operation on April 1, 2026, to improve sanitation and protect public health.

The initiative, which has been ongoing for the past seven months, involves desilting gutters and clearing littered areas across the municipality.

On Wednesday, April 1, the team focused its efforts on desilting gutters from Market Top, in front of Amuga Rural Bank, to the GOIL filling station, ensuring the area was left clean and free from debris.

Mr. Prince Yao Amevi, Executive Director of the team, said the exercise was driven by a strong commitment to maintaining a clean and healthy environment.

He explained that poor sanitation posed serious health risks and required collective action to address.

Mr. Amevi noted that the team faced challenges during operations, particularly from motorists who failed to give them space while they worked.

“Both vehicle and motorcycle riders sometimes ignore our presence, making the work dangerous and difficult,” he said.

He also expressed concern about the attitude of some members of the public who re-litter areas that had already been cleaned.

“This discourages the team, but we remain committed to the cause,” he added.

Mr. Amevi acknowledged support from Mr. Stephen Adom, the Municipal Chief Executive of Ho, who provided logistics, including a tricycle, wheelbarrows, and shovels, to facilitate their work.

He appealed to local authorities, corporate organisations, and individuals to support the initiative with equipment and manpower.

The team leader said the goal was to contribute to a cleaner Ghana, starting with Ho, popularly referred to as the “Oxygen City.”

He encouraged the public to support the initiative by volunteering or contacting the team via 0245100609 to enhance their impact.
