Tsakpe Youth roll out development activities to support community growth

The Tsakpe Youth for Development in the Kpando Municipality of the Volta Region has commenced a three-day programme aimed at mobilising resources to support community development.

The activities, which run from Friday, April 10 to Sunday, April 12, 2026, include a clean-up exercise, health walk, health screening, indoor games, a football gala, and a grand durbar.

Mr Michael Quame Dzide, Public Relations Officer of the group, told the Ghana News Agency that the initiative was inspired by the realisation that government alone could not meet all the developmental needs of communities.

He said the youth group had, over the past four years, institutionalised the annual programme to raise funds for self-help projects to improve living conditions at Tsakpe.

“This initiative is for everyone in the community. Whether you are from Tsakpe or not, once you are here, you are part of us, and together we can develop our community,” he said.

Mr Dzide explained that this year’s fundraising proceeds would be used for the acquisition of canopies, plastic chairs, and other logistics to support social events in the community.

He noted that proceeds from previous activities had been used to construct a pavilion at Tsakpe Bawagbe, which the group was hopeful to expand into a full community centre.

As part of the programme, a football gala involving teams from Tsakpe Old Town, Tsakpe New Town, Aloyi, and surrounding communities will be held, alongside participation by women’s groups in various games.

A health walk and screening for diseases such as diabetes, tuberculosis, and HIV would also be held, he said, adding that: “Our health is very important. A healthy body leads to a healthy mind, and that is why we are placing emphasis on health this year,”

Mr Dzide added that entertainment, including a bonfire and cultural performances such as the bobobo dance, would be held in the evenings to promote cultural heritage.

The programme will climax on Sunday with a grand durbar expected to attract traditional authorities, political leaders, and other stakeholders to discuss development priorities for the community.

Surrounding communities;  Sovieda, Botoku, Churukpe, and Okunya had been invited to participate to strengthen unity and promote collective development.

Mr Dzide reaffirmed the group’s commitment to supporting neighbouring communities, citing recent assistance to Aloyi during its development activities.

“We stand for goodwill and development not only in Tsakpe but across the area. Together, we can build stronger communities,” he said.

The event is being organised in collaboration with local leaders, including the Tsakpe Old Town and Tsakpe New Town Assembly Members.
