Asantehene destools royal spokesperson Otumfuo Kyeame Kofi Nti

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has presided over the destoolment of Otumfuo Kyeame Kofi Nti, the royal spokesperson, following multiple allegations, including misconduct, improper handling of traditional oaths, and disputed eligibility, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The decision was reached during an Asanteman Council meeting held on Monday, April 20, 2026, where charges against the royal official were examined in accordance with the customary laws and procedures of the Asante Kingdom.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II personally oversaw the proceedings, which resulted in Kofi Nti’s immediate removal from his position as Otumfuo Kyeame.

Key among the accusations were questions regarding his royal lineage, specifically concerns over his ability to properly invoke the Otumfuo Ntam Kɛseɛ—a sacred and significant oath within the Asante traditional system.

The Council further heard allegations that Kofi Nti improperly handled and retained multiple invocations of the oath, exceeding customary limits, and failed to report them as required by the protocols of his office.

Additional testimony from the Ayaasehene raised concerns about the alleged improper enstoolment of a divisional chief, which was also considered during deliberations.

After reviewing the evidence, the Asanteman Council ruled in favor of destoolment, effectively stripping Kofi Nti of his traditional authority and duties.
