Sissala East Assembly breaks ground for 24-hour economy market

The Sissala East Municipal Assembly on Friday broke ground for the construction of the 24-hour economy market facility at Tumu, meant to bring to life one of the current government’s policies of making businesses run full cycle in a day.

Mr Adamu Yakubu, the Sissala East Municipal Chief Executive, addressing a durbar emphasised the strategic importance of the project in boosting local revenue and providing a safe environment for night-time trading.

Touching on the scope of the project the MCE said the project included the construction of a Police post, a fire post and a hydrant.

The rest are a six-bed clinic, a pharmacy, an environmental office, Market manager’s office, an information centre, a parcel office with storage, 94 lockable shops, 150 open sheds, 176 open pavement selling areas, 17 showers, 18 washrooms (W/Cs), 10 warehouses, a lorry terminal and a meat shop.

Others are, a cold store, refuse disposal and collection point and will also come with a drainage system, food court, livestock bay, a crèche, a Women’s Bank, a saloon/barbering shop, a mall/supermarket, a 6-bed hostel with six guest rooms, and disability-friendly as well as security infrastructure to support 24-hour economic activities.

The MCE assured those whose stores are slated for demolition not to be overly worried since, “We have a transparent record of every trader currently on this site. You are our priority. I give you my word that once these modern stores are complete, the original occupants will be the first to move back in”.

The project, valued at GH¢ 33 million with 40 per cent of the total sum released, is being executed by Velin & Company Limited under the technical supervision of Homeland Resources Limited.

Some traders the GNA spoke to urge the Assembly not to allow this project to become one of those that will not be completed.
