A 60-year-old man has been arrested by police in Accra for allegedly tying his 16-year-old son to a quad bike and dragging him along a tarred road, leaving the teenager with multiple injuries.
The suspect, Eric Mantey, was taken into custody by the Madina Divisional Police Command following the incident on May 3, 2026, near the Adonai Church area in North Legon.
According to the Ghana Police Service, the victim had gone out to play football with friends against his father’s instructions.
Police spokesperson and head of Public Affairs, Superintendent Juliana Obeng, briefed the media on Thursday, May 7, 2026.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect, angered by the boy’s actions, confronted him and allegedly tied him to the quad bike before driving off,” Supt. Obeng said.
Witnesses reported that the teenager fell onto the road and was dragged for several minutes before residents intervened and stopped the suspect.
The victim was rushed to a hospital for treatment of his injuries.
During interrogation, Supt. Obeng said the suspect admitted to acting out of anger over his son’s behaviour. “He stated that he acted out of anger over the victim’s behaviour,” she added.
Police have not yet disclosed whether the suspect will be formally charged, but confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
