Reckless Voxy driver on Kumasi–Accra highway convicted, fined GHC 3,120

A driver who was filmed driving dangerously on the Kumasi–Accra highway in a viral video, endangering the lives of other road users, has been convicted, fined GHC 3,120, and handed an additional two-month jail term with hard labour.

The driver, Richard Agyarko, was behind the wheel of a Toyota Voxy with registration number EN 551-26.

He was arrested after the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service launched investigations prompted by the widely circulated footage.

Agyarko faced multiple charges, including driving on the wrong side of the road, causing road obstruction, endangering other road users, as well as careless and inconsiderate driving, offences contrary to the Road Traffic Regulations and the Road Traffic Act.

On May 8, 2026, he was arraigned before the La Motor Court, presided over by Her Worship Adwoa Sakyi Asumadu, where he pleaded guilty to all charges.

The court convicted him on his own plea and ordered him to pay a fine of 260 penalty units, equivalent to GH¢ 3,120.00, with a default sentence of 15 days’ imprisonment with hard labour.

In addition, Agyarko was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment with hard labour.
