The Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Kwame Ohene Frimpong, has been detained at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
Parliament’s Clerk, Ebenezer Djietror, disclosed the development in a Facebook post on May 12.
“It has come to the attention of Parliament that the Honourable Member for Asante Akyem North Constituency, Mr. Kwame Ohene Frimpong, has been detained at Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam, in the Netherlands,” the post read.
It added: “The Rt. Hon. Speaker and the Leadership of the House are in touch with Ghana’s Mission in The Hague for detailed information on the matter. The public will be duly informed appropriately.”
Ohene Kwame Frimpong is a Ghanaian entrepreneur and politician. He contested the 2024 parliamentary elections as an independent candidate and defeated the incumbent MP, Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi.
A native of Agogo in Asante Akyem, Frimpong had his basic education at Cosmos Preparatory School in Lapaz, Accra.
He attended Aggrey Memorial A.M.E. Zion Senior High School for his secondary education and obtained his first degree from Central University College in Ghana.
He later pursued further studies at The College of Haringey, Enfield, and North East London (CONEL) in the United Kingdom.
